It seems like there is some disagreement in the world about who was behind the attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001. The Economist published a survey that showed many parts of the world believe that the US was behind the attack. This is not entirely surprising as the US is an easy target for anger and outrage. What surprised me was how many Germans thought this: 23%.
This thinking is a reflection of the distrust that people around the world feel towards the US. While US citizens do not share the views of this survey, how many of us believe that our government communicates with us honestly? How many believe that our politicians can and will tell us the truth? It does not help that we fabricate evidence and attack other countries based on faulty information. Look where this behavior has brought us. We really need to deal honestly with ourselves and the rest of the world. We will find peace at home and abroad through forgiveness and understanding, not through revenge and punishment.
